City Controller employees paid by School District must now adhere to city ethics rules

The City Controller’s office has five employees on the School District of Philadelphia payroll because the office spends a decent chunk of time auditing the district.

And until now, those employees have not been subject to an ethics rule that bans city employees’ political activities (Insert joke about School District ethics here).

But, as the Daily News reports, the Board of Ethics is putting a stop to that. No retroactive sanctions are planned, but those positions will be subject to the city’s ethics rules from now on.

Controller Alan Butkovitz said he’d support moving those positions to the city payroll if the budget allows.
