City brings back Splash and Summer FUNd campaign to open public pools

Philadelphia today kicked off its annual campaign to raise money to open public pools for the summer. Get the Noodles ready; there’s only $94,000 left to go.

With a $600,000 goal, the Splash and Summer FUNd aims to open all 70 of the city’s public pools for the summer, staffed with lifeguards and maintenance employees.

First Niagara Bank has donated $100,00 to the cause, with United Health Care and Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest also kicking in significant donations. Local businesses like Urban Outfitters and Tastykake are also supporting the efforts.

So far, $506,000 has been raised, leaving other donors plenty of time to contribute before the April 30 deadline. But please, no splashing.
