CineFest returns with outdoor perfomances, street fair

There was no CineFest last year. So this year, it’s coming back packed with extra events. The April event will show more than 60 films across five venues, in addition to hosting some outdoor events.

CineFest is spring’s answer to the Philadelphia Film Fest. But when things didn’t work out for CineFest last year because of money problems, the Film Festival swooped in and held its own series.

Arts & Culture reporter Peter Crimmins filled us in on the details. Both formerly made up the Philadelphia Film Society, but split acrimoniously in 2009. Since then, the Film Festival dominated the fall, while CineFest took over the spring.

CineFest will re-enter the scene with a street festival outside of the Ritz Five, and a Sunday performance at the Piazza in Northern Liberties. Oh, and they’ll show movies, too.

CineFest runs April 7 through 14.
