Cindy Bass announces location for next ‘Coffee with the Councilwoman’

Councilwoman Cindy Bass (D-8th) will host the next session in a series of “Coffee with the Councilwoman” at Porter’s Daycare and Educational Center, 1434 Belfield Avenue, in the southeast quarter of her legislative district.

Bass’ spokesman Joe Corrigan said it’s an opportunity for local residents to spend time talking directly with the Councilwoman and her staff about their issues and concerns.

The freshman Councilwoman is also planning to open a district council office this year. Corrigan told NewsWorks that Bass is considering an offer by a local nonprofit for a rent-free space in Mt. Airy. She has asked the city’s Ethics Board for an advisory opinion on whether this is an acceptable arrangement.

These roaming office hours and the planned district office are a contrast to the Eighth District’s previous council representative. Donna Reed Miller did not have a district office and during last year’s council race many residents expressed frustration that Reed-Miller did not seem accessible. It’s a charge that Reed-Miller denied telling NewsWorks that her Council office always had an open door policy.
