Christie, others debate education ideas on morning television
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and other northeast governors are taking their ideas for public education changes to morning television.
Christie is participating in a special edition of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” focusing on student achievements. Friday’s show is being broadcast from Fort Lee High School.
The show will feature conversations about the policies and reforms that will help improve public schools.
Guests include the governors of Connecticut and Delaware, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, reform advocate Michelle Rhee, former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr. and the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Christie has proposed abolishing lifetime teacher tenure, basing teacher evaluations partly on student improvement and creating a system of merit pay.
New Jersey’s Senate Education Committee will discuss a teacher tenure reform bill on Monday.
