Christians to pray on Independence Mall, say sins destroy the country

Tomorrow thousands of Christians are expected to gather on Independence Mall in Philadelphia to pray.  It’s no coincidence the event “America for Jesus 2012” is taking place just weeks before the November general election.

Organizers say the event will address the seven deadly sins, citing examples of how sin is destroying the country.

“Voters need help from a high power this election season,” said Bishop Anne Gimenez, pastor of the Rock Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

“We’re praying for God to heal America.  The Republicans – I don’t think they have the answer.  The Democrats don’t have the answer either.  Man can’t figure it out.  We are asking God for his help.  Our problem is not a political problem.  Our problem is a moral and social problem, and it’s deep – it’s the soul of America that’s sick,” she said.

Why have the giant prayer meeting in the city of Brotherly Love?

“We’re coming to Philadelphia because it’s where our nation began – the first capitol.  And we consider it really what we’re calling the ‘headwater of America.'”

Gimenez says it’s tough to predict how many people will show up, but she says people are coming from across the country.
