Chris Matthews will receive an honorary Temple degree

Chris Matthews has several honorary degrees, multiple awards, a few books and a TV show. In May, he’ll be given an honorary degree from Temple.

The university announced today it will honor the Hardball host and Philadelphia native with an honorary doctor of humane letters degree during the school’s 124th commencement ceremony.

“Chris Matthews has distinguished himself as a broadcast journalist, newspaper bureau chief, presidential speechwriter and bestselling author,” President Ann Weaver Hart said in a statement released by the university. Hart called Matthews an “enthusiastic advocate” for Philadelphia.

Matthews broadcast his show live from the campus last year, received the university’s Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Award in 2005 and is part of Temple’s Hall of Fame at the School of Communications and Theater.
