Chicago considers Newark’s top cop in Ramsey’s stead

What is it about East Coast city police chiefs? Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel widened his search for a new police chief when Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey turned down the chance to return to Chi-town.

Lists of top candidates from Emmanuel and the city’s police board both include Newark, N.J.’s police director, Garry McCarthy.
McCarthy is the only candidate to make both lists, the Star-Ledger reports. Formerly of the NYPD, McCarthy has been recognized for reducing crime and heavy-handed policing in Newark.
