Chestnut Hill residents have reservations about Big Belly cans

Who wouldn’t want trash cans along their neighborhood business corridor?

Chestnut Hill residents decided to approve the city’s offer of 15 Big Belly cans for Germantown Avenue, but not without their reservations.

At a Chestnut Hill Community Association meeting earlier this week, members had concerns the “ugly” cans would detract from the Avenue’s atmosphere and the cans’ handles would spread germs.

The cans ended up getting unanimous approval, but with a couple conditions: the cans won’t be used for advertising and they’ll only be placed along the Avenue between Cresheim Valley Drive and Southampton Avenue.
