Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels getting ready for sports-themed annual fundraiser

The Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels (CHMOW) is gearing up for their 3rd Annual Tailgate Party entitled “Fighting Hunger is a Team Sport…Game On” on April 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The event will take place at the Flourtown Country Club, 150 McCloskey Rd. in Flourtown, PA.

The CHMOW is a community based non-profit organization that provides two fresh meals to their homebound neighbors living in Mt. Airy, Germantown, Chestnut Hill, Wyndmoor, Erdenheim, Flourtown and Oreland five days a week including holidays.

During the event, attendees will get the opportunity to play various games including baggo, beer toss — similar to ring toss at a carnival — and wine balloon pop, which will enable each player to walk away with a bottle of wine.

Attendees can also play a game of heads or tails through the night which enters them to win an iPad mini.

There will be a silent auction where prizes will include a catered wine and cheese party, a vacation rental in Sun Valley Idaho complete with some ski equipment, and an overnight trip to New York City with a tour of Rockefeller Center.

Cheshiem Dental Associates will also be providing a photo booth for CHMOW’s tailgaters.

Kathleen Novasack, tailgate and silent auction co-chair, said the tailgate fundraiser enables them to help their neighbors who are in most need and keep the community connected for a good cause.

“A lot of the money is going to provide subsidies to ours neighbors that can’t afford healthy and nutritious meals,” said Novasack. “Meals on Wheels is not just providing meals, we are providing a connection because a lot of neighbors are home bound seniors and we may be the only people they see every day.”

She said last year’s tailgate party also represented 25 percent of their operational costs.

Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. For additional information, visit the Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels website
