Chaput urges Philadelphia Catholics to lobby legislators for school choice

Catholic Schools Week starts Monday, and what typically includes a lot of craft-making and group prayer in Philadelphia’s Catholic schools might take a more political tone this year.

In his weekly column, Archbishop Charles Chaput urges teachers, parents and students to use Catholic Schools Week to write to their legislators about the need for school choice.

“In the coming week I’ll be writing every state senator and representative in the territory of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to press them to support school vouchers,” Chaput writes. “And I’ll continue doing it until vouchers pass.”

He tells readers the vouchers, “do not mean ‘government support for religious schools,'” but, “return the power of educational choice to parents, where it belongs.”
