Center City District named recipient of a 2012 Downtown Merit Award by the International Downtown Association for Sister Cities Park

Minneapolis, MN (September 24, 2012) — During its most recent annual conference the International Downtown Association recognized the Center City District (CCD) with a Downtown Merit Award for its work and initiatives related to the renovation of Sister Cities Park at 18th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

The project, the $5.2 million renovation of Sister Cities Park that transformed the 1.3-acre site into a richly planted, well-illuminated and welcoming public space that offers a variety of amenities for people of all ages to enjoy 365 days a year, was among 22 qualified entries in the category of Public Space. This category recognizes capital improvements that enhanced the urban design, physical function, or economic viability of downtown and the community.

“The CCD is delighted that IDA recognized the transformation of Sister Cities Park and the contribution it has made to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway by giving families with children who live or visit Center City Philadelphia more things to do when they are downtown,” said Paul R. Levy, President and CEO of the Center City District. “We especially appreciate generous support we received from many stakeholders to transform this park into an inviting and attractive outdoor space,” Levy said.

“The CCD’s project received the IDA Merit Award for delivering excellence in downtown management,” said David Downey, IDA President and CEO.  “Each year the IDA Awards Jury recognizes organizations that utilize best practices in our industry.  The transformation of Sister Cities Park is a shining example of excellent downtown management that delivers real results.”
