Castro admits to extortion charges on the stand

A former high-ranking Philadelphia Police officer has admitted to extortion charges. Daniel Castro broke down on the stand yesterday, the Associated Press reports, admitting he approved the use of a debt collector who would use violent force to get back $90,000.

Carlos “Dan” Castro was charged in November with bribery and extortion. The former head of the traffic division will return to the stand today after saying yesterday the decision to use the collector, who turned out to be an FBI agent, was the biggest mistake of his life.
