Car charged for Cape May-Lewes Ferry

Starting next month (later this week), you’ll have to pay to bring your car on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. But it’s still cheaper than driving over the bridge.

The ferry will implement a $2 per vehicle surcharge beginning April 1, the Associated Press reports. First introduced in 2009, the charge comes into play whenever the cost of fuel rises faster than the trend. For now, the fee will be in place through April as the Delaware River and Bay Authority keeps an eye on fuel costs.
