Camden gets its first private professional art gallery

Camden is celebrating a first this weekend as artist William Butler opens the city’s first private, professional art gallery.

The public is invited to two weekend events at Eleven One Studio/Gallery, though it’s clear the organizers know what they’re up against when trying to attract families to the city.

“Gallery Eleven One is located in the safe and lovely Cooper Grant neighborhood on the Rutgers campus near the Camden Waterfront,” a release for the opening reads. “We have safe and secure off-street parking and free one hour parking right next to the gallery.”

Today from 4 to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from noon to 6 p.m., everyone is invited to the opening receptions, where refreshments will be served. The gallery is housed in a historic 1906-built firehouse.
