California group plans to bid on USS Olympia

    A group in Vallejo, Calif. says it’ll bid on the USS Olympia when open bidding begins next month. The historic war ship now rests comfortably on the Delaware River in Philadelphia as part of the Independence Seaport Museum, which is having trouble affording the ship’s upkeep.
    The Navy Yard Association of Mare Island wants to move the 244-foot-long ship to San Francisco, PlanPhilly and the Associated Press report. The Olympia launched in 1892 from San Francisco
