Brick woman, 94, badly beaten by granddaughter, authorities allege
A 37-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting her 94-year-old grandmother, authorities said.
Officers from the Brick Township Police Department were dispatched to a residence at 93 Courtshire Drive just before 11:30 a.m. after receiving a call for medical assistance, according to a release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Upon their arrival, police found Mary Francis Driscol semi-conscious with multiple injuries, including a brain bleed, blood shot eyes, and multiple bruising and lacerations to the body, authorities said. Driscol was transported Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, authorities added.
Michele Schubert became concerned after she returned home to New York Friday and was unable to contact her daughter, Katherine Schubert, 37, and mother last Friday and Saturday, according to authorities.
Schubert returned to the residence, at which time she was met by her daughter’s friend, and entered to find Katherine Schubert “highly intoxicated” sitting in the kitchen and Driscol slumped over a bed in her bedroom, authorities said.
Katherine Schubert was taken to Ocean Medical Center in Brick for evaluation and subsequently charged with aggravated assault. She was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River with bail set at $150,000 cash only.
The Brick Township Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department are continuing the investigation into the motive for the assault.
