Blowtorch used in kidnapping, home invasion

Police say a man was kidnapped in northeast Philadelphia and burned with a blowtorch before he and his wife were robbed in a home invasion.

A police spokeswoman said the 32-year-old victim was approached in the Frankford neighborhood at about 5:15 a.m. Saturday by six masked males armed with guns and dressed in police or military fatigues.

Police said he was taken elsewhere and burned with a blowtorch and assaulted with a gun. He was then taken home and left in a vehicle while the males duct-taped his wife and took an undetermined amount of money and a safe. The man was then left outside as the males fled.

The victim was taken to Aria Frankford Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition. No arrests were immediately reported.
