Authorities continue search for missing fisherman near Highlands

Authorities are conducting a search of the Shrewsbury River near Highlands after a submerged 25-foot clamming vessel was discovered Sunday morning.

A man, identified as Ray Phillips, contacted the Coast Guard, stating that his friend, Edward Broderick, had been missing since approximately 10 p.m., Saturday, according to a Coast Guard release.

Phillips last spoke with Broderick around 6 p.m. Saturday, when Broderick, who was last seen wearing gray or green sweatpants, told him that his vessel was en route to a clamming facility in Highlands, the release states.

Broderick’s submerged vessel was found outside the marina where he originally intended to dock. Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police personnel continue to search for the man on land and in the water.
