August slots revenue up 5.7 percent at Pa. casinos

State gaming officials say gross revenue from slot machines was up 5.7 percent at Pennsylvania casinos last month compared to the same period a year ago.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released monthly revenue figures for the state’s 11 casinos on Wednesday.
The data shows casinos generated gross revenue of $210.6 million, an increase over $199.2 million in August 2011.

This year’s figures are boosted by play at Valley Forge Casino Resort, which opened in March and brought in nearly $4 million from slots last month. Gross revenue was up 3.7 percent when looking solely at casinos that were open both last month and in August 2011.

Six of the 10 casinos open during both periods showed gains. Four showed declines, ranging from less than 1 percent to 9 percent.
