Arsonists target vehicles in Northeast Philadelphia

Philadelphia police are investigating an outbreak of car fires they have deemed suspicious in the Northeast section of the city today.

    Six vehicles were burned overnight.

According to CBS3, the first vehicle was discovered around 3:30 a.m. near Castor and Solly in Rhawnhurst. An additional four car fires were set in the Bustleton section on the 9700 block of Birwood Street, the 9800 block of Clark Street, the 9300 block of Bustleton Avenue and the 1900 Block of Lott Street.

NBC10 reports that at least one of the fires was set in a driveway and frightened residents weren’t sure if it was spreading into the house. The family, who awoke to find their car ablaze pulled their three sleeping children from their beds, called authorities and waited outside for fire crews to respond.
