Developer considers opening rival Philadelphia newspaper

The Associated Press is reporting a developer has shown interest in opening a rival newspaper unless he is able to bid on the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News.

According to the Associated Press report, Bart Blatstein and philanthropist Raymond Perelman claim they’ve been excluded from any potential sale of Philadelphia Media Group.

Blastein says he has money to fund a newspaper for the long haul, according to the AP.

News of the potential sale broke earlier this month, when former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell said he and a group of investors had made a “non-binding expression of interest” in purchasing Philadelphia Media Group.
