Amish couple killed when car strikes their buggy

    Pennsylvania State police were continuing to investigate a crash that killed an Old Order Amish couple whose buggy was hit by a car in the central part of the state.

    Troopers say 54-year-old Daniel Swarey and his 53-year-old wife, Mary, were killed Saturday, after a car hit their buggy from behind about 2:15 p.m. The crash happened along U.S. Route 22 in Porter Township, Huntingdon County.

    Police say Daniel Swarey died before he could reach a hospital while his wife died at UPMC Altoona hospital.

    Police have yet to determine if the driver of the vehicle will be cited or face criminal charges in the crash.
