Amid financial woes, Harrisburg cancels holiday parade
Santa won’t be visiting Harrisburg this year. Not in the public venue, at least.
The big guy, his reindeer and other holiday staples are taking a year off since the city has had to cancel its holiday parade. The Associated Press reports organizers haven’t raised enough money for the annual event, and the city last year decided special events would have to fund themselves.
But even handing off special events couldn’t help the capital get control of its finances. Gov. Tom Corbett yesterday signed a law giving him power to force Harrisburg into a state-sanctioned financial recovery plan. Harrisburg has hundreds of millions of dollars in debt.
Sounds like the capital could use a visit from Santa.
