Altoona changes its name for Morgan Spurlock film

For 60 days, Altoona, Pa., will change its name. The new name isn’t very catchy. The town will officially be know as “POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” beginning April 27.

The name, as the York Dispatch reports, is a promotion for filmmaker Morgan Spurlock’s movie of the same title. Spurlock paid the town as unspecified amount of money for the renaming as part of the film about the proliferation of advertising in American life. The movie is named for the juice company that sponsored it.

WHYY’s Maiken Scott will talk with Spurlock tomorrow morning on Radio Times.
