An air quality alert is in effect today, according to the National Weather Service.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a “Code Orange” alert.
According to airnow.gov, the air in New Jersey is within the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” level, meaning that the air quality may impact “sensitive groups.”
“Air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups,” the alert advises. “Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly.”
The alert says to avoid strenuous activity and exercise indoors to minimize the effects of air pollution.
