After dogfighting bust, puppies await new homes, dogs await trial

It could be some time before Spartacus is adopted. He was mid-fight when authorities raided a home earlier this week and busted up a dogfighting ring. He’ll wait for trial at the PSPCA shelter while his wounds heal.

In the meantime, as WHYY’s Lizz Fiedler and Kim Paynter discovered upon a visit to the shelter, several puppies found at the fight are ready to go to new homes. The 5-month-old pups were being bred to fight, but were still too young to compete. But now the overcrowded shelter must compete with the pit bull stereotype to help get these dogs adopted.
