Academy of Natural Sciences offers free day to celebrate partnership with Drexel

With the partnership agreement between the Academy of Natural Sciences and Drexel University formalized, the Academy is opening its doors in celebration with a free day Oct. 26.

“There’s a lot to celebrate as we formalize this affiliation, including its transformative impact on natural sciences research and education and on Philadelphia’s scientific and cultural resources,” Drexel President John Fry said of the agreement.

The partnership was announced in May as a way for the Academy to better promote itself as more than a “dinosaur museum,” and for Drexel to further its educational opportunities. Drexel will open its new department of Biodiversity, Earth and Environmental Sciences next fall, bringing students and Academy scientists together.

Though no money or assets were exchanged, Pew Charitable Trusts did contribute $1 million for transitional costs.
