Abington ordinance would strengthen residential street speed limits

An ordinance floating through Abington would strengthen the township’s residential street speed limit.

Approved Wednesday by the Public Safety Committee, the ordinance would allow the township to set a maximum speed limit on residential streets without having to post speed limit signs around. The max would be 25 mph.

Abington Patch reports the more than 200 miles of roadway in Abington make posting signs on every street an unlikely possibility. As the measure moves forward, the township will consider posting speed limit signs at the township’s gateways.
