President Mitt Romney, enjoying his first term and thrilled with the progress of the American economy, has released this holiday message:
“Happy Fourth of July, everybody! And, gosh, what wonderful news we got yesterday. As you’ve probably heard by now, our makers added 288,000 jobs in June – the fifth month in a row that hiring has exceeded 200,000. The jobless rate plunged to 6.1 percent last month, the lowest reading in nearly six years. In In terms of adding new jobs to the economy, the first half of 2014 was the best in eight years. Yes, folks, thanks to my administration, more and more Americans are fully engaged in the pursuit of happiness.
“And that’s just for starters. Yesterday, the Dow topped 17,000 – the highest mark ever achieved, and the Nasdaq hit a level not seen since the year 2000. So Wall Street is bullish, corporate profits are healthier than they’ve been in a long time, and the housing market – a key economic indicator – is rebounding in a swell way.
“We still have a ways to go, of course, but let’s listen to what the experts are saying this week – smart guys like Dean Maki, the chief U.S. economist at Barclays. Here’s what he says: ‘We’re clicking on all cylinders in terms of job growth. Every major sector showed job growth in June, including the private service sector, where the bulk of jobs in the U.S. are created.’ And here’s Michael Feroli, chief U.S. economist at JPMorgan Chase: ‘The job growth numbers appear to be firing on all cylinders.’ And here’s Business Week: ‘The strongest job growth since the recession is indisputably good news.’
“So you see, folks, there’s no need to ever apologize for America. On this sacred national holiday, we can truly feel patriotic.”
Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee issued a statement hailing the robust economic indicators: “Thanks to President Romney’s business acumen, and his long experience in the private sector, we are finally experiencing an all-American rebound. The new numbers prove that America made the right choice in 2012. Enjoy your holiday, secure in the knowledge that America is back!”
