40th Street Summer Series free outdoor concerts begin tonight

This summer the University City District brings internationally acclaimed musicians to West Philadelphia for a series of free outdoor concerts that begin tonight.

Brooklyn-based Slavic Soul Party has performed across North America, Europe and Africa and will be playing at 40th and Walnut streets, tonight, Saturday, June 23. Acoustic blues artist Shakey Lyman will open the show around 6 p.m.

According to UCD, “Slavic Soul Party has created an acoustic mash-up of Balkan and Gypsy sounds, weaving the gospel, techno, funk, dub, jazz and Latin influences of New York’s neighborhoods seamlessly into a Balkan brass setting.”
