Going to (basketball) court in London

An area basketball team is getting the trip of a lifetime.

A team of all-stars from Southeast Pennsylvania high schools and community colleges is going to London to participate in the Future Stars International Basketball Tournament. Dondi DeShields, coach at Community College of Philadelphia, says former Villanova University player Howard Brown is sponsoring the trip.

Brown, who plays in a European league, is financing the trip through his “Live the Dream Foundation.”

“They’ll be freshmen in college and some of them will be sophomores,” DeShields said. “Most of them are 18. A lot of these guys start college at 16. This trip to London, when they leave here, they will come back as grown men just from that experience alone.”

The players will have a chance to compete against future Olympic athletes. For many, it will be their first trip out of the country.
