2 youths shot near Philly’s Welcome America event

Two teenagers have been shot, one by a police officer, near the city’s Welcome America celebration in Center City.

Police spokesman Lt. Ray Evers says police saw a youth shoot a 17-year-old in the calf at about 9:30 p.m. last in the 1600 block of John F. Kennedy Boulevard. He says an officer pursued the suspect and fired once, grazing him in the chest.

The 16-year-old suspect and the 17-year-old victim both are in stable condition at a local hospital. No police officers were injured.
