12-year-old saves 11 family members from fire

Darrell Scott says he remained calm and just kept breathing last month when his family’s North Philadelphia home caught fire. His efforts saved 11 family members.

Much like 11-year-old Mahlon Graham, Scott, 12, remembered what he’d taught about fire. The Inquirer reports Scott helped lead his mother, siblings and cousin to safety during the fire, and he already had a predetermined meeting place set up in case of emergency.

Scott was honored at a school ceremony Friday by Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers.
