Jay Scott Smith is a reporter, anchor, and producer at WHYY. With more than 10 years of experience as a journalist and broadcaster covering news, politics, and college and pro sports.
He has previously worked for the Detroit News, Newsweek Magazine, NBC News, TheGrio.com, and Detroit Public Radio as well as made appearances on ESPN Radio’s SportsCenter Tonight, NPR’s The Takeaway, and MSNBC’s NewsNation and covered everything from the Detroit Bankruptcy, The trial of George Zimmerman, the 2012 Presidential Election, and Chicago Gun Violence to issues of race in sports along with the NBA, NFL, and Major League Baseball.
A Detroit native, Jay is a graduate of Michigan State University and holds a Master’s Degree from Wayne State University.
