Ackerman remembered as passionate to some, arrogant to others

    Arlene Ackerman said her tenure as head of Philadelphia public schools was her “last stand for kids.” The colorful leader was alternately loved and loathed in the city, sometimes at the same time by the same ally or adversary, and her passing over the weekend brought back memories of a controversial time.
