Past meets present (and vice versa) at West Oak Lane Charter School alumni event

Several dozen West Oak Lane Charter School alumni gathered at the school Tuesday to participate in a round-table discussion with current students about what their futures may hold.

At the “In Search of YOU – Our Past, Our Present, and Future” event, graduates from the classes of 2003 through 2011 reunited with faculty and administration. They were greeted by student council members and given a tour of the new 64,000 square foot middle-school facilities.

“I want this event to be the first of many that will foster a community that stays connected and interested in the current and future welfare of our great institution,” said Dr. Debbera Peoples-Lee, CEO of WOLCS, “as well as serve as a communication hub for alumni to share their experiences beyond the walls of West Oak Lane Charter.”

The round-table discussion enabled current middle school students to ask alumni about ways to prepare for high school and college.

College-bound alumni also received book scholarship awards, sponsored by the school’s parent group, Families Being Involved (F.B.I.) and Logan Technology Solutions. Sixteen students received awards.

“This is an opportunity to connect and network,” said Dr. Peoples-Lee. “We want them to be prepared.”
