Winter Storm News and Updates

    The wind and snow continue to pound the region this morning. The storm will shut down some operations in and around the city.

    Philadelphia public and Archdiocesan schools are closed today.  Suburban schools are largely closed as well.

    Train delays are mounting.  Some are now running up to about twenty five minutes behind schedule, according to SEPTA’s website.  About twenty bus routes are running detours, but just one bus route, Route 120, has been cancelled due to the weather.

    The city has declared a snow emergency, meaning motorists will be towed if they park on snow emergency routes in Philadelphia.

    PECO energy is reporting a few hundred power outages in the region due to trees falling on power lines.  There are about 5,000 power outages in New Jersey.

    Philadelphia International Airport is reporting cancellations on flights throughout the airport due to the weather.  The airport is only operating on one runway, but officials say they hope to open a second runway sometime today.  US Airways will suspend service on about a quarter of its 400 daily flights from the airport.
