Winter Classic alumni game pushed back two hours due to weather conditions
The National Hockey League has announced it has pushed back the start time for the alumni game from 1 p.m. on Saturday to 3 p.m. due to weather conditions.
In a statement on the official NHL website, the league says the delayed start time was based on Saturday’s weather forecast and would allow for “optimal game conditions” for players and fans.
Phillyweather.net says temperatures Saturday could reach a high of 54 in Philadelphia.
Despite the warmer weather, the NHL says the ice is in good shape and will be ready to go. The league says more water spraying took place late Wednesday night to seal in the white paint. On Thursday morning, the crew, led by NHL Senior Director of Facilities Opertions Dan Craig, begain laying in the lines, logos and faceoff circles.
The league says tickets to the “Molson Canadian 2012 NHL Alumni Game” will still be honored.
The delayed start time means gates at Citizens Bank Park will now open at 1 p.m., with sports complex parking lots opening now at 9 a.m. and Spectator Plaza scheduled to remain open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
