Wilmington woman scammed by man impersonating cable TV employee

A Wilmington woman who thought she was letting a cable TV technician into her home instead opened her door to a thief.

The elderly resident of the Wawaset Park neighborhood told police she answered a knock Sunday afternoon, and a man identified himself as a Comcast employee and asked her to check her television.  She left her living room for a short time, but that was long enough for the man to grab cash, credit cards and car keys from her purse.

The woman also discovered that the man had driven away in her gray 2002 Ford Taurus.  The man was not wearing a work uniform, and the woman could not give a detailed description of the suspect.

Police also notified the neighborhood about the crime via a “reverse 911” call.
