Philly records wettest year on record

It’s official: It’s been the wettest year on record for the city of Philadelphia.

The National Weather Service says the .62 inches of rain recorded by 4 p.m. Wednesday brought the yearly total to 56.76 inches.

Forecasters say that breaks the old record of 56.45 inches for the year set in 1996.

And they point out that the yearly total is 56.76 inches “and counting” — since the year isn’t over yet. And either is this potentially rainy Thursday.
