Weekend New Briefs: 7/1 – 7/4
Thursday — Two teenagers were shot late Thursday night in a Castor Gardens incident at Unruh Avenue and Kindred Street. The shooting left 18-year-old Tyree Branch of the 6500-block of Horrocks Street dead from a wound to his back. The other teenager, 17, was treated at Jeanes Hospital for a wound in the arm.
Saturday — A driver was able to escape a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning after his car hit a tree. The 26-year-old lost control of his car and drove into a tree around 5 a.m. at Roosevelt Boulevard and Goodnaw Street. He was taken to Aria Health-Torresdale for treatment, but was able to escape the car before it caught fire.
