Weavers Way releases more details on its Mt. Airy store renovations

In a statement released this morning, Weavers Way provided a more detailed description of its plans. Some of the key changes listed are a full renovation of the public space in its Mt. Airy store location at 59 Carpenter Lane. The administrative offices will not get a fresh new look. Also, the Pet Store at 608 Carpenter Lane is being expanded into the former yoga studio next door at 610 Carpenter Lane. The health and beauty supplies will be moved into this new space.

Full statement released today

Weavers Way Co-op’s Mt. Airy store will undergo a substantial renovation this summer, with a new look and energy efficient fixtures, a new Wellness store and expanded Pet Supply store, and a huge new bulk section on the second floor – possibly the biggest in the city – with hundreds of bulk items, including nuts, grains, snacks and other dried goods, as well as oils and vinegars, and even cleaning supplies. The bulk section will help shoppers save money with lower prices and the ability to purchase only the amount they want. It will also help reduce waste, with less packaging and less unwanted food ending up in the compost pile, or the landfill.

Construction began June 14 at the Co-op’s new Pet Supply and Wellness store at 608/610 Carpenter Lane – “Weavers Way Across the Way” – and workers have already broken through the wall to combine the two storefronts. That phase of the renovation should be completed in early July, and there will be an open house to celebrate the new space with champagne and hors d’oeuvres, 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 27.

On July 11, Weavers Way will move operations from its main store at 559 Carpenter Lane to a pop-up shop in the Co-op’s community meeting room at 555 Carpenter Lane (Weavers Way’s original storefront!), with a selection of groceries from every department and an outdoor produce market. Hours for the Pop-Up will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Construction at 559 will begin July 16 and is expected to last until the end of August.

In the meantime, there will be plenty of activity to keep things lively in the Mt. Airy Village. Weavers Way has arranged a variety of events – Music, Crafts, Food Trucks, Grilling, Kids’ Events, Parties and More – so there will be something happening almost every day. For a full list, visit www.weaversway.coop. There will also be a Co-op Shopper Shuttle van, making frequent regular trips between the Mt. Airy store and the Chestnut Hill store on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, to make shopping at Weavers Way a breeze. To help keep things popping at the all the businesses in the Mt. Airy Village, Weavers Way is sponsoring a Mt. Airy Village Loyalty card program, giving $5 off any Weavers Way purchase of $50 or more for every ten purchases of $5 or more at the businesses of Mt. Airy Village.
