Volunteers collect 231 pounds of acorns in Delaware

Saturday’s Annual Acorn Collection Day in Delaware brought 163 volunteers and yielded 353 lbs. of acorns.

Volunteers at three locations partnered with the state Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to collect 230 lbs. of acorns from areas where seedlings normally can’t grow. Those, combined with the 12 lbs. homeowner collected, will be spread across the Blackbird Reserve and Cedar Swamp Wildlife Areas for reforestation.

Including this year’s collections, more than 3,700 lbs. of acorns have been collected in the last seven years.
