Unlicensed Pa. abortion doctor set for scrips plea
An unlicensed doctor convicted of killing two babies born alive at a Philadelphia abortion clinic plans to admit he illegally prescribed oxycodone.
A defense lawyer says Steven Massof of Pittsburgh will plead guilty to the charge at a Feb. 8 hearing. Federal prosecutors say he used clinic owner Kermit Gosnell’s registration to prescribe controlled drugs to patients in 2006 and 2007.
The 49-year-old Massof is one of 10 employees charged after investigators found barbaric conditions at the clinic. He has pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree murder, which can bring a 20- to 40-year state term. Defense lawyer Jeffrey Lindy says Massof faces probation to six months on the prescription drug charge.
Gosnell is awaiting trial on charges he killed seven babies born alive and a patient.
