Casino union to protest pay cuts at Resorts
The main casino workers union in Atlantic City has scheduled a demonstration outside Resorts Casino Hotel to protest the pay cuts most workers had to take when new owners took over in December.
Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union says today’s protest could draw thousands of casino workers and their supporters to the Boardwalk.
Resorts co-owner Dennis Gomes says reducing expenses was essential to keep the struggling casino open.
The union’s contracts with nine of Atlantic City’s 11 casinos expire in September, and the protest is seen as a union show of force before bargaining begins.
