Two potential mayoral candidates change registrations

Some strange breaking news in Philadelphia politics (as if there were any other kind):

Tom MacDonald tells us sources tell WHYY that former Mayor John Street has changed his voter registration to non-partisan for the election. Street is not the only person with a last minute change.

Tom Knox has registered as an independent, he says to “run against Milton Street” if he happens to beat out Mayor Michael Nutter in the primary. Knox says his registration change is not to run against Nutter in the fall, just as a precautionary step to prevent Milton Street from running without opposition. John Street has not responded to e-mails asking about his voter registration switch.

Nutter said he isn’t concerned about Knox’s registration change, saying he is doing everything he can to prevent Knox from having to run. Nutter said, hopefully, he will have the opportunity to give Knox a new voter registration form so he can change back to Democrat.
