Transformer fire shuts down SEPTA’s trolley service

    Update: Some trolley routes are partially back up. SEPTA officials say the situation will continue to improve throughout the morning–just check their website before you travel.

    Due to  an underground transformer fire in University city, SEPTA trolleys are not running as usual. 

    Here’s the service alert from SEPTA’s website:

    “ALL trolleys will being using SHUTTLE buses. Buses will transport passengers to 40th & Market to connect with Market Frankford EL trains.”

    SEPTA officials say to expect heavy delays on those EL trains.

    Philly.com reports that the fire started around 2 a.m., and that a SEPTA worker was injured in the blaze.
