Republican candidate for U-S Senate Pat Toomey made a rare appearance in North Philadelphia today. Toomey visited a Latino section of the city to get the endorsement of the Governor of Puerto Rico.

When Toomey arrived at the Tierra Columbiana restaurant on North 5th street, he didn’t get a warm reception from a group of people on the sidewalk.

“Toomey no, Fortuno no…get out of my neighborhood…”

Inside the restaurant, diners continued to eat while Governor Luis Fortuno lent his support to Toomey.

“To strengthen Washington to make sure we stop spending more than we take in. To make sure at the end of the day we start lowering taxes for taxpayers.”

Like Toomey, the Republican Governor is a fiscal conservative.

Frankford resident Marie DeLany came out to support Toomey because of his stance on immigration.

“We have to do something for the borders, its not safe for anybody. It’s not safe for those trying to come and those over here. And I think Toomey espouses that, that’s what Toomey wants to do. I think he’s in line with where the American people want to be and should be.”

Toomey says he wants to secure the borders first, and have immigrants come in through a controlled process.
