The first episode of Tony Danza’s new A&E reality show set in Philadelphia’s largest high school debuts tonight.
“Teach” features Tony Danza at work at Northeast High – a reality TV gig the school’s principal, Linda Carroll, says she was initially – nervous about.
“When you hear someone say there’s an actor who’d like to come to your school and teach English, you ask yourself, why? So they gave me a couple of reasons: it was something he always wanted to do, and he was inspired by a speech by Obama, and even after hearing that you’re still going to be a little bit leery because this is one of the toughest professions that you can actually venture into.”
Carroll says Danza prepared lesson plans and attended planning and teaching strategy meetings just like other teachers.
She hopes the show will give viewers a glimpse into what really happens inside schools – beyond the negatives that often make the headlines.
Carroll says she doesn’t know if Danza’s coming back to teach another class.
